Voted probably the best golf competition in September in Kibworth “The Elite ” Championship has been hailed as one of the greatest sporting moments of the last few days.

This year only 7 of the Elite were available as Jem Woodland was in Europe on a short Tax Exile break and was not available. The remaining 7 were keen and eager and gathered on the first tee to finalise the traditional argument about the Par 3 fund. After the kerfuffle was concluded play got underway and the man on form, Robin (as it was he) pilled in a magnificent 21 points on the front 9.

The crowd were stunned, which is not unusual for that time of day, and as the back 9 unfolded it was only the popular Rob Dexter who could put up any real  challenge, with Julian Winch gallantly holding his nerve to take 3rd place. Clive D, last years winner fell apart with much aplomb, Finance Director and philanthropist Aldo Rodi fell apart with style and elegance and Mike T just fell. Kev Dunkley CEO of Dunkley’s Racing Trolleys suffered with some steering issues but just hung onto 5th place.

Robin was generous in his acceptance speech:

“I would like to thank myself for the tournament organisation, Trophy and I look forward to next years event which we hope will take place while it is still Summer.”

And with that the proceedings were wrapped up with a number of pints of a rare and expensive European lager, as is traditional in these circumstances.
