I myself have had a certain amount of reconstruction , Leicester have returned to the Premiership and we are already planning for 2025. So let us look back on the last 12 months with fondness and enjoy the triumphs and failures of the last 365 exciting days !”

” We only played 25 rounds this year , which is 10 short of the last few years. But the standard of golf , as ever, improves like a maturing cheese, a bit smelly and rather runny.

We look forward to the new season with a skip in our step and a tear in our eye as we contemplate another year of sun, fast greens and stunning locations , but enough of that Bollocks , can I have a pint of lager please ?”

And to rapturous applause with the Golfer of the Year Sir Roger Large being carried shoulder high the ceremony reached its inevitable climax and the nurses and carers arrived to take everyone home.
